Startup Costs

A lean local get-started plan for Legacy Defenders, including minimum setup, first marketing tests, and realistic early cost ranges.

0-90 Days To Prove
1 Completed Customer

The Lean Launch Rule

Spend only where it helps us prove the customer loop:

lead -> free report -> paid review -> provider packet -> local operator work -> customer proof -> better system

Do not buy trucks, warehouse space, crews, uniforms, or heavy equipment early. Legacy should start as an AI, marketing, records, and coordination company that routes physical work to local operators.

Minimum Startup Budget

Item Lean Range Notes
Entity, EIN, bank, basic bookkeeping $200-$1,000 Keep structure simple until revenue proves what legal work is worth paying for.
Insurance review / basic business coverage $500-$2,500 Actual needs depend on whether Legacy touches homes, items, or only coordinates.
Website, forms, analytics, email, phone, scheduling $100-$500/month Most of this is already started; keep tools simple.
AI/API usage and workspace tooling $100-$1,000/month Meter usage with credits so heavy users pay for their own compute.
Legal templates and compliance review $1,000-$5,000 Scope, boundaries, privacy, provider terms, referral/affiliate language.
Design/print collateral $250-$1,500 One-page leave-behind, professional partner sheet, yard/signage tests if useful.
First provider vetting $0-$1,500 Mostly calls and checklists; pay only where background, insurance, or credential checks require it.

Lean start range: $3K-$12K before serious paid advertising.

First 90-Day Marketing Test

Start with the cheapest path that can prove real intent.

Channel 90-Day Test Budget What To Learn
Organic SEO/content $0-$2,000 Which pages bring inherited-house, only-child executor, out-of-state executor, lowball offer, and hoarder/smoker traffic.
Google Search / Local Services style tests $1,500-$7,500 Cost per report start, cost per call, and which keywords convert.
Retargeting $300-$1,500 Whether guide/report visitors come back to book.
Local print/community papers $500-$3,000 Whether older homeowners, heirs, and local professionals respond to trust-building print.
Direct mail / probate-adjacent mailers $1,000-$5,000 Response from targeted households or public-record-informed lists where compliant.
Small billboard / digital out-of-home test $2,500-$10,000 Brand awareness and direct URL/QR response in Pittsburgh corridors.
Professional partner outreach $250-$2,000 Attorney, CPA, realtor, appraiser, funeral, senior move, and aging-service referrals.

Practical first test budget: $5K-$20K over 90 days.

Pittsburgh Local Plan

The first message should be simple:

Inherited a house? Do not accept a low offer, clean out everything, or start repairs until you see the estate math.

Suggested first campaign:

  1. Build and track landing pages for only child, out-of-state executor, low as-is offer, house full of belongings, smoker/hoarder house, and plan-ahead.
  2. Run small paid search tests to the free report.
  3. Place small print ads in community papers or local newsletters that older homeowners and families actually read.
  4. Test one local billboard or digital board only after the report/call funnel works.
  5. Visit or call referral sources: estate attorneys, CPAs, realtors, appraisers, funeral homes, senior move managers, and local aging organizations.
  6. Track every lead source through report start, call, paid review, and project.

Advertising Cost Notes

These are planning ranges from current public ad-market guides, not quotes:

  • local billboards commonly run from low thousands to five figures per four-week cycle, depending on placement
  • Pittsburgh billboard vendors may require around a $5K minimum spend for some campaigns
  • community print ads can be a few hundred dollars per insertion; metro daily placements can be much higher
  • home-service paid leads can land in the tens to hundreds of dollars depending on channel, category, and market
  • legal-style keywords can be very expensive, so Legacy should avoid bidding like a law firm until conversion is proven

What Success Looks Like

The first marketing dollars should prove:

  • cost per report start
  • report completion rate
  • call booking rate
  • paid review conversion
  • project conversion
  • average net revenue per converted case
  • value of professional referrals
  • whether print/billboard creates trust or just vanity impressions

If marketing cannot be measured, keep the spend small.
